Franz Reuleaux (1829-1905) was a German engineer in the 19th century who was seen as the greatest scientist of his time in the field of mechanical engineering. He liberated mechanical engineering from technical experiments and established it on the principles of mathematics and the natural sciences. Reuleaux's sharp and eloquent critical breadth made him a well-known figure in Berlin of the time. He was known for not cowering before authorities, lobbyists or the public opinion. If technical science was his profession, civil and moral courage were his passions. Franz was often called the father of kinematics and had the Reuleaux triangle named after him.
With a design language inspired by the geometry of the Reuleaux Triangle, the ARVET collection aims to remind us of our common heritage from Franz Reuleaux.

THE REULEAUX TRIANGLE
The design is inspired by Franz Reuleaux's pioneering geometric shape 'The Reuleaux Triangle'.
This shape has a constant width when rotated, making it useful in many different ways. For example, it is used in mechanical engines, architectural windows and guitar picks.

A BRIGHT IDEA
The Reuleaux triangle was a brilliant idea. That's why ARVET uses a luminescent pigment called Swiss Super-LumiNova® BGW9 on its hands and hour markers to honor the idea and of course to make it easy to read the time in low light.

The inner sector of the dial consists of a guilloché pattern that symbolizes the fusion of three circles that together form the shape of The Reuleaux Triangle.
