Behind the company name and brand ALATO® is a very personal and significant story that ties in with the founder's upbringing. The word Alato has since 1990 been used within the family as a declaration of affection, and the company ALATO Watches Inc was established in 2023 outside Gothenburg, Sweden.
This is how it all began. Once upon a time, there was a little boy who was going to learn to say "I love you" in English.. but what came out of the boy's mouth was "a-la-to". The boy's parents picked up this made-up word and started using it when explaining to their son how much they loved him.
Today, Alato is the expression of our watchmaking passion, guided by the meaning in the name and realized in every detail we create.

We create watches with care for the craft, the process and the people who wear them. We choose longevity over shortcuts and believe every detail should serve a purpose.
Our designs draw from moments of engineering clarity, inventions and instruments that changed how we see the world, reinterpreted through contemporary watchmaking.

35 YEARS BEFORE THE FIRST WATCH
ALATO has its roots in a story that began 35 years ago. In 2023, that story took a new form when ALATO Watches was founded just outside Gothenburg, Sweden.

BEHIND ALATO
ALATO® was founded by watch enthusiast and designer Pierre Strömbäck. With a background in architecture and civil engineering, his approach to watch design is shaped by a fascination for how things work, how they are built and why certain forms simply feel right.
That balance between engineering and design continues to shape every ALATO watch.
